The mighty mare, mamma to Jigs
Nattie is the second oldest in our small herd of horses. In this photo she is almost 12 months pregnant with Jigs. She is a mighty horse because she put up with a lot to have Jigs and came out of the birthing process healthy and strong. Nattie is 22 years old. Her name comes from our shortened version of "she's a Natural". She is a fantastic mother. Allowing us to do whatever we want with her foals. She loves to be groomed, have her belly scratched and udders cleaned.

Welcome! I rescued our horse, Autumn, almost 3 years ago. She's the first horse I've ever owned. She was in very poor shape when she arrived, and was lowest horse in the pecking order. We were given another mare at the same time, as I believe horses need equine companionship. However, it turned out that this other mare was brutal, so we gave her away.
Long story short, Autumn is happy and so beautiful now that she isn't always getting beat up. She has 2 goat companions, plus my dogs, cat me and my 2 children are with her most of the day.
You can see pictures of my farm on my website, which is accessed through my blog.
I can't wait to learn more about what you do.
Thanks for the nice welcome! How did you find me? I was so excited to see a comment!
I LOVE your photos. Autumn is a beauty and what a story about her adventures coming to you. She is very fortunate.
Your photos certainly reflect how happy and content your animal family is.
I'm always telling my family, "If the animals are happy then we're happy!" Make sure they get fed and attended to and then we end up being fed and attended as well. It is such a joy to watch animals do their thing.
Thanks again for the nice welcome and for finding me. You'll always be my first blog commentor!!!
I found you by looking for people on Blogger who like horses, and you definitely like horses! Glad you liked my photos. I just recently decided to see if I can sell my photos due to the urging of friends and family, so hopefully it will get lots of views and I'll make some sales. Until then I'll keep doing what I love to do, which is taking pictures.
I agree with you about the happiness and contentedness of animals. I wish more people treated their animals with as much care and attention as I do. I suppose what really needs to happen is people need to realize that animals have feelings and needs, just like humans do. Until then, not all animals will have the lives they deserved.
So, how do you help people attain the big dream of horse ownership?
Take care!
Darlene
What a weekend!
Thanks for your question about how to attain the "big dream" of horse ownership. You'll have to wait for the answer......SORRY about that but I guess I never expected to be found so soon. I'm happy about you finding me but you'll have to be patient until I get this all pulled together. I have one or two more horses to post too. This is all so new for me.
Now, when I post this, does it go on your blog too or just stays in this blog? In other words, can you see my comments in your blog or do you have to keep entering my blog? I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for your comments. You seem to have a good handle on your animals' needs. I'm just committed to the decision of animal ownership. If I can't do good by them then I would just as soon somebody else enjoy them!
Unfortunately, we have coyotes, wolves and mountain lions that can take out any of our animals. Also, great horned owls and golden eagles. So far, the cats have been the most affected by the "survival of the fittest" theory. By nature they are so curious and in the trees and everywhere! It is hard to protect them. They have a barn and many, many sage bushes, hollow tree stumps and other natural hiding places BUT the coyotes are pretty darn persistent and sneaky.
Thanks again for waiting for the reply regarding my horse ownership idea. Keep checking back for updates.
That's okay, I can be patient!
Whenever I post a reply or comment on your blog, I asked that an email be sent to me whenever a follow up comment was made. This is an option you have when leaving comments here or on other peoples blogs. So, I can read your answers in the email I'm sent (it does not appear on my blog, too) but I have to come to your blog to reply. The email has a link included, so its pretty quick.
As much as I miss the West, which is where I grew up (Washington State) I don't think I would want to live there because of the wild animals. I would simply freak if my horse were attacked by a big cat or a pack of wolves or coyotes. I know that's the way of nature, but I just couldn't do it. I'd probably be wondering every night if my animals were being hunted.
Have a great day!
Darlene
